The Port of Olympia - Places and Spaces
If you're looking to head to the waterfront from downtown Olympia, the Port of Olympia offers a variety of ways to explore. Walk along boardwalks, plazas, and trails to enjoy the beauty of the South Sound. It's all here at the Port!
Port of Olympia Places & Spaces
With approximately 67 acres of space under its belt, it can be hard to know where to start when it comes to experiencing all the Port of Olympia has to offer. From the strategically located Olympia Regional Airport to the north in Tumwater, to Swantown Marina at the southern end of the peninsula, there's a lot of exciting experiences waiting for you to discover.
NorthPoint
NorthPoint is the tip of the Port peninsula with expansive views of Puget Sound’s Budd Inlet and the Olympic Mountains. It houses Anthony’s Hearthfire Grill and the historic KGY AM-FM radio station. The Billy Frank, Jr. Trail provides public access to the shoreline. NorthPoint is also home to Swantown Marina and Olympia Area Rowing, an organization that promotes rowing opportunities for youth and adults in the Olympia region.
Port Plaza
Port Plaza is "the spot" for many of the region's outdoor celebrations and events. Not to miss is the viewing tower above the performing arts stage that offers breathtaking waterfront views of the marina, Percival Landing, and downtown Olympia to the south or the Olympic Mountains and the Port's working waterfront to the north. Offering up to 500 feet of dock space, you could even arrive by boat.
Just to the east of Port Plaza you'll find the Olympia Farmers Market, one of the only vendor-owned and operated farmers markets in the State of Washington with over 100 vendors, and Anthony's Homeport Restaurant, a hometown favorite for waterfront dining.
East Bay Plaza
The East Bay Public Plaza serves as the heart of the East Bay District where it's all about educational experiences and sustainable features. The plaza features a water theme celebrated through artwork, interpretive elements, a wetland pond and a flowing stream.
Whether you've got the kids or you're just a kid at heart, you'll have hours of fun at the Hand's On Children's Museum which stimulates curiosity, creativity and learning through fun, interactive exhibits and the WET Science Center offering hands-on opportunities to learn about precious water resources including conservation, reclaimed water use and protecting Puget Sound.
Public Trails
The Port of Olympia offers scenic waterfront trails that are perfect for a leisurely walk. As you stroll along the trails, you'll be treated to beautiful views of the East Bay and Budd Inlet, sailboats and paddleboarders, and the Olympic Mountains off in the distance.
Billy Frank Jr. Trail
This walking/running trail stretches between the corner of East Bay Drive/Olympia Avenue and the scenic Billy Frank Jr. Park at NorthPoint (near KGY Radio). It runs along the shoreline past grassy areas, Swantown Boatworks, Swantown Marina, Olympia Rowing and the former site of Cascade Pole. Beautiful year round, the Billy Frank Jr. Trail offers spectacular views of Budd Inlet and the Olympic Mountains. A few seating benches and picnic tables are along the way.
Peninusula Walk
From the Billy Frank Jr. Trail at NorthPoint, walkers can continue south along Marine Drive and then turn west on Market Street to the Farmers Market. At the market, head west between the buildings to the Port Plaza and then south along the Percival Landing. View our brochure and map of the Billy Frank Jr. Trail and Peninsula Walk areas.
