Overview
The Olympia Historical Society and Bigelow House Museum is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of Olympia. The Carpenter Gothic-style Bigelow House is one of the oldest residences in Olympia, Washington. Pioneer lawyer and Territorial Legislator Daniel R. Bigelow and his schoolteacher wife, Ann Elizabeth White, built the house in the 1850s. The Bigelows were pivotal figures in early Washington history, the struggle for woman suffrage and public education. Open to the public during regular hours, the home displays original documents, artifacts, and furnishings representing over 150 years of the family’s participation in the community and state. The Olympia Historical Society and Bigelow House Museum also provides public programs, maintains a research website and is a partner in the Thurston County Historical Journal.
