Join us Saturday, May 10th, for the 30th annual Prairie Appreciation Day! Did you know there are prairies in Western Washington?
Come to Glacial Heritage Preserve to celebrate the hidden gems that are our South Sound Prairies. Of the 150,000 acres of prairies originally in this area, there are less than 15,000 remaining, most in poor condition. Come join us in celebrating this unique ecosystem and learn what you can do to help save it!
This FREE festival includes 20 educational booths, native plant identification workshops, children's activities, a 4-mile hiking trail, an early morning bird walk, a hayride around the prairie, and homemade amazing pies courtesy of Wattle's food truck. This event is perfect for all ages, whether you're a prairie expert or just starting to learn, there are amazing experiences for all!
For bird enthusiasts, there is an early morning bird walk where you can expect to see over 70 species.
Donations of canned goods for the Thurston County Food Bank are welcome.
Please leave your dogs and other pets at home; this sensitive ecosystem is home to many endangered animals, including rodents and birds.
